Although there were thirty centimeters of snow on the ground on November 20, 2024, it quickly melted in the ensuing warm weather. Springtime temperatures were in line with the long-term average. The summer was warm and pleasant. We were spared from severe thunderstorms and hail. The autumn saw changeable weather, making the harvest challenging. The final quarter of the year saw a lot of precipitation. In fact, precipitation in 2025 was approximately 40% above average.

Overall, the 2025 growing season was good. Despite weather conditions that were at times conducive to fungal diseases, we were able to keep the vines healthy thanks to careful monitoring. We required five fewer pesticide applications than in 2024. The grapes began to ripen at the end of July—about 10 days earlier than usual. September 3 marked the first day of harvest with Riesling and Sylvaner, and the harvest was completed on October 13 with Syrah. Organizing the harvest was challenging due to the changeable weather. Sunny days and heavy rainfall made planning difficult.
However, the grapes we harvested were of very fine quality, and in a quantity that was average for the last 10 years. The wines that are developing in the cellar show a lot of promise; it will be a vintage of very fruity, harmonious wines that reflect the 2025 growing season in both power and elegance.

The photovoltaic system, which had been planned for some time, was finally put into operation in the spring of 2025. The accompanying battery allows us to achieve a high degree of energy self-sufficiency.

In 2025, we continued to participate in various initiatives to protect and promote biodiversity at Tschäpperli and in the Klus vineyard overall. In the future, we will use goats to combat the invasive blackberries that are overgrowing the Tschäpperli ruins. Blackberries are a delicacy for goats.

We have expanded the diversity of our grape varieties over the past few years. You will now find a pure Cabertin (red fungus-resistant variety) in our selection. For the first time, we have pressed an orange wine—white wine fermented on the skins—from the Sauvignac (white fungus-resistant variety).
We look forward to seeing you at our tastings and events in 2026 (https://tschaepperliweine.ch/agenda/).

Tschäpperli, March 2026

Ueli and Barbara Bänninger-Zurflüh
Damian von Blarer
Steffi Wirth and Dieter von Blarer

Dear Friends of Tschäpperli Wines The 2024/25 winter was mild; in fact, too mild.
